When it comes time to shop for your wedding dress, make sure you bring these few things with you to ensure a great appointment!
A budget in mind.
Establishing a spending limit is important. While doing research and browsing through dresses online, keep in mind the price point you aim to stay under (or around).
A loyal crew of honest but loving people.
Less is more. Bring the loved ones who will have your best interest at heart but be honest when the time comes. Too many voices might quiet yours which is the most important of all!
A belly full of shopping fuel.
Shopping “hangry” won’t help anyone. It is important to look and feel your best while shopping. Make sure you come to your appointment fueled and energized!
Basic wedding dress knowledge.
Silhouettes:
Ball gown: Princess inspired. Fitted bodice and a full skirt.
A-line: Not as full as a ball gown, but with a similar effect. The skirt creates the shape of the letter “A”.
Fit and flare: Fitted waist and then flares out at or below the hips.
Mermaid: Figure hugging. Flares out below the knee at what’s known as a “join line”.
Sheath: Skims the body. Falls straight to the floor.
Bridal sizes vs. street clothes sizes:
Here at Kleinfeld, almost all of our samples are bridal size 10-12, or street size 6-8, with a wide selection of gowns in sizes 18-22 to try on as well. Don’t worry about the sizes though—your expert bridal consultants will clip your dress to reflect what you’d look like on your wedding day, and almost every sample we carry can be ordered in a variety of sizes!
Proper undergarments.
Nude undergarments are the way to go (they won’t distract you from looking at the dresses you’re trying on). If you plan on wearing shapewear on your wedding day, consider bringing that along as well.
The heel height you are considering wearing the day of.
It doesn’t have to be the actual shoe you plan on wearing for the big day, but if you plan on wearing flats down the aisle, shop in flats. Same goes for heels!
An open mind.
Your consultant might pull some options that were not what you initially described. But, with an open mind you might be pleasantly surprised!
Inspiration.
Bring in pictures from Pinterest you have come across and liked, pictures from our website, and pictures of your venue to further articulate the theme and vibe of your wedding. Take a look at different designer’s dresses and the vibe you are looking for—typically designers stick to their signature style.
A positive attitude.
It’s a no-brainer but we had to mention it—this is such an exciting day! Come with a clear and happy mind.
A hair tie.
Let’s be honest, nothing is worse than reaching for a hair tie and not having one! Hair ties will certainly come in handy when you’re trying to envision what your updo will look like with the cathedral veil you have on.
