Anna and Rob - 9/3/17

About the Proposal

Engaged:

October 10, 2015

Rob and I had been dating 7 years (5.5 years long distance) and had been living together 6 months. He was going on a Boys Trip to Ft. Lauderdale, where he previously lived, to visit friends. At the last minute he suggested I come along in case he has some downtime and to enjoy the warm weather compared to the Michigan fall.

We were spending a lot of time with our friend, Scott, who is a captain of a private yacht. Saturday night, after a day in the sun and sand, we were all supposed to take the tender to dinner along the Intercoastal. At the last minute, Scott had to handle an issue with one of his crew members. Rob and I went on without him, assuming he would meet us at the restaurant.

Halfway down the Intercoastal, enjoying a slow cruise, Rob suggested that we take a picture with the sunset in the background. He never leaves home without his go-pro, so it wasn’t unusual he had that to set up the shot. Little did I know it was now taking a video of what was about to be the biggest surprise of my life!

As I stand to pose for the picture, he turns to me and tells me how much he loves me. He then gets down on one knee and shock takes over! I don’t remember all of what he said, but the next thing I know he has a ring and is asking me to marry him! It was the biggest surprise and the best moment of my life. After lots of hugging, crying, and kissing, Rob goes to the back of the boat to grab a hidden bottle of champagne and glasses to toast to the next stage of our lives!

About the Dress

Kleinfeld Consultant:

Debbie Asprea

Going to NYC to go dress shopping had been on my radar since we did the same for my sister when she got married in 2011. I had been a longtime fan of Say Yes to the Dress and loved the selection and professionalism that Kleinfeld had to offer, so going there was my first choice! I knew a few things that I didn’t want, but that was about as far as I had gotten before going to try on dresses.

I tried on 5 different dresses total and fell in LOVE with a dress by Madison James. It was old-time glamor with features that showed off my best assets as well as made me look elegant. It had a v-neck tank top with a low back detail. It was an A-Line fit with a champagne colored silk underlay and a beautifully beaded overlay. The beading was incredible (and surprisingly heavy) with a stunning train. The top beaded layer was longer than the silk layer and provided for an incredible and breathtaking silhouette. The scalloped hem was the finishing detail on the PERFECT dress! Debbie was so fantastic and made chose options that were unexpected and made me so comfortable.

About the Wedding

Married:

September 3, 2017  //

Location:

Ceremony: Grosse Pointe, MI Reception: Detroit, MI   //

Venue:

Ceremony: The Grosse Poitne Club Reception: The Gem Theater

It is hard not to gush about your own wedding, but it was truly the perfect day.

Our goal was to have a great time, and even more importantly, a great party! Our ceremony was outside at The Grosse Pointe Club along the lake on the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend. This is where my husband had coached sailing for 6+ years growing up. We met sailing, so this felt like the perfect location! It was a stunning day in the high 70s without a cloud in sight. Our guests sat on the lawn of the club looking out to the water and we were married by our local pastor.

From there we went to downtown Detroit via a trolley and spent the night dancing away at the Gem Theater. We had our cocktail hour outside and then dinner and dancing inside. It was the most fun day that I have ever had! The best compliment I heard all night was, “You are the happiest bride I have ever seen.” That was my goal during the whole process! Stress-free and fun!
