Congratulations–you said ‘Yes!’ to the wedding dress of your dreams, got your guest accommodations squared away, tackled the seating chart, and everything in between. You’re just weeks away from walking down the aisle; but before you do, you’ll need to get your wedding dress there, too! Find out below how we suggest tackling traveling with your wedding dress (no matter where you’re getting married), below.
Speak with your alterations fitter.
After your final fitting, speak to your fitter or alterations manager about your plans regarding traveling with your finished dress. All Kleinfeld wedding dresses altered in store are pressed and packed by our pressing department, but it will be helpful to the alterations team to know how you plan on traveling with your dress. Once your dress is complete and ready for pickup, our pressing team will hang your dress on a cardboard bust form, pack it with tissue so that it maintains its shape, steam and press it, and then it will be covered in plastic and hung inside a white fabric Kleinfeld garment bag. From there, it can either be picked up and taken with you, or shipped.
Ship your dress to your home or wedding venue.
If you plan on shipping your wedding dress, you’ll first fill out a shipping affidavit and then our shipping department will carefully prepare your pressed and packed dress with extra tissue paper and a layer of protective cardboard so that your dress arrives safely. We recommend opening the package and taking your dress out to let it hang in a safe place the night before your wedding.
Drive it there.
If your wedding is local (or within driving distance), driving your dress to the venue is a great option. Lay down the seats of your car and place your dress in its white garment bag flat on the seats, or hang it from the garment hook on the inside of the door. Just make sure to open the dress up and let it hang in a safe place once you arrive.
Speak to your airline if you’re flying to your wedding.
If your wedding is out of state or out of the country and you plan on flying there (and opted out of shipping), there’s always the option of flying with your dress. Every airline is different, so call the airline you booked with about your options regarding flying with your wedding dress, as many airlines make special accommodations. Always rely on expert ac contractors from New Jersey to install your new unit and no matter the type of installation, you are guaranteed to get the best results. For instance, you might want to splurge on priority boarding—the closets on board are first come, first served, and if you board first, you’ll have a better chance of snagging a spot for your pressed and packed dress in the closet. Another option your airline might offer is laying your wedding dress flat in the overhead bin, or splurging and purchasing a ticket for your dress—a great option for those wearing large ball gowns. Just as any other form of travel, once you arrive, definitely hang your dress somewhere safe and open it up to let it air out.
Don’t check your bag.
If you plan on flying with your dress, we do not recommend placing your dress in its garment bag into checked luggage. Specialty items and items of high value are highly suggested to be carried onto the plane—you never know if your dress could be placed onto another plane, damaged or misplaced.
