Congratulations—you said YES to your dream wedding dress! Now that you found the dress of your dreams, it’s time to start thinking about any accessories you may want to add to customize your bridal look. One of the most common accessory-related questions we receive on our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter is, “which headpiece would work well with my wedding dress?” Well, we asked the experts—our fantastic team of accessories consultants—and found out their top tips for finding the right headpiece for your special day.
Consider how you plan on styling your hair first.
Prior to your headpiece appointment, definitely think about how you’d like to style your hair on your wedding day. “Once you find the perfect dress, you should have an idea of whether you are wearing your hair up, down, or rocking a half-up-half-down hairstyle” accessories consultant Kendra says. From there, it’ll be much easier to narrow down a headpiece with your consultant, as some styles work better on updos, etc.
Do your research.
“Find inspiration pictures on Pinterest and Instagram of pieces with your dream hairstyle and then contact a Kleinfeld accessories consultant for an appointment to find the perfect piece” Kendra says. A bride with a clear vision of what she wants will be ready to make a decision.
Match your head piece to your personality, not your dress.
While a veil that perfectly matches the lace on your wedding dress will look stunning in pictures and walking down the aisle, the most important thing to remember is how your accessories make you feel, and how they best complement your personality. “In most cases, there isn’t a perfect matching veil or headpiece for a wedding gown. It is all about the bride’s style and vibe of the wedding. The accessories have to complement, not compete with, the dress” says accessories consultant Candice.
Step out of your comfort zone!
We always say, this is the only day in your life you can wear a dress with with the cathedral train you’ve been eyeing, crystal encrusted bodice you’ve been dreaming of, or colorful skirt you’ve never thought you’d be able to pull off. “It is your one chance to be unapologetically dramatic—so go big or go home,”says our accessories consultant Danielle. With that, step just one notch up on your comfort zone levels and you’ll never regret it. “That doesn’t mean you have to wear a big tiara with all crystal, but don’t be afraid to pick the headpiece that you wouldn’t normally gravitate to because it is your wedding day and you can afford to be a little more extravagant” says accessories consultant Rita.
Balance is key.
“My tip is that less is balance! If you want to wear statement earrings maybe go for an elegant comb. Going for a stud? Then go big with a stunning crown” accessories consultant Christina says. Keeping your accessories balanced will complement your dress and keep you from looking overdone. Or, you can always switch out accessories from ceremony to reception to balance out your looks for the evening.
